Reflection ~ findings and evaluation comments from the UC Davis workshop "Tools For Successful Communication" for Sierra County Human Service professionals held in Loyalton, CA.  Half Day Workshop

Findings

At the beginning of the workshop each person stated one reason they were successful with communication:

  • Caring
  • Has valuable info to share
  • Approachable
  • Good listener
  • Actively listens to people
  • Good listener
  • Values others opinions
  • Can read people

​Each participant shared why a person who they knew is a successful communicator:

  • Caring honesty
  • Naturally attracts those around her
  • Calming effect
  • Easy to talk to and cares
  • Calm, sense of community, wants harmony
  • Gives advice when asked

​Evaluation Results

What were the strengths of the course? What did you value most?

  • The course reaffirmed positive action and honest caring communication.
  • Joe is the best instructor, he makes learning fun.
  • Being able to encourage others and the encouragement I received.
  • The course brought our group together. The course also brought out our strengths with communication along with areas we can improve upon.
  • I loved the interaction.

​How could this course be improved?

  • To be taught this information during a river rafting trip. (Hint Darden)

How will you apply what you learned?

  • Communication with clients begins with me making them feel safe. (I choose to do this intentionally)
  • To keep helping people in a caring positive way.
  • Eagerly & happily.
